Blue Christmas is a time for quiet reflection. It is a service created specifically for those of us that find the holiday season difficult, whether it be because we have lost someone, or we struggle with the busyness and activity of this time of year.

We are so happy to announce that we are once again offering Fellowship after our regular Sunday Services!
To celebrate, this week Derry and Trish have been busy making chili and soup to serve. Everyone is welcome to join us to catch up and chat while enjoying a delicious meal. Tables will be placed to allow for physical distancing between visitors. We look forward to seeing and chatting with you! Mark your calendars, because we have a date set for our Drive-Thru Turkey Pie and Bake Sale! It will be on Saturday, November 27th from 2 - 4 pm.
We are hoping for another successful bake sale, so please read below for instructions on how to help things go smoothly:
For the past few years, the First United Church has been participating in a Reverse Advent Calendar to collect items for our local Food Bank.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, people that access our local Food Bank is at an all-time high and as a result, the Salvation Army is in need of extra assistance in making sure they are able to reach everyone that needs it. As a result, this year, we are going a bit further and extending the Month of Giving to also include November. It is hoped that the Month of Giving, in addition to our regular weekly and monthly collection items, will help increase the amount of items that we regularly donate. The calendars are posted below for anyone wishing to participate in this project. Items can be collected on a weekly basis in church. If you are attending our online services, please phone the church to arrange for a time to drop-off. Between holding our Fall Garage Sale and preparing Turkey Pies for our upcoming Bake Sale, it has been a super busy week!
On Saturday, October 23rd, we held our Fall Garage Sale and BBQ since the pandemic had started. It was very successful and we were able to raise over $700! It was great to see so many people from our community come out to support us, and chat to catch up. We certainly miss all of our regular functions and look forward to when we can meet again. On Sunday, October 24th, we began cooking the turkeys needed to make our famous Turkey Pies. On Monday and Tuesday, our assembly line of volunteers assembled and packaged the pies, which were then frozen. This year we have a new record of pies...721! Thank you to everyone that helped purchase and make the pies. We greatly appreciate your contributions and help! We would also like to thank everyone that helped at our Garage Sale, either by donating items, helping with the sale, or coming in as a customer. Your support does not go unnoticed and we are so lucky to belong to such a supportive community! We are pleased to announce that we will be doing another Turkey Pie and Bake Sale this Fall! During COVID-19, this has been our largest fundraising event for the Church and we hope for another successful event!
We have gathered the turkeys and are needing assistance with getting the remaining ingredients. Due to COVID-19, we are requesting monetary donations, instead of having people sign-up to donate specific items. If you would like to help us with this, please talk to Trudy or Norma. We are also looking for help with gathering items for our Bake Sale. If you would like to take part in this, please let Trudy know what you will be providing. We will provide an update once a date has been set for the Turkey Pie and Bake Sale. Fall Garage Sale Coming Up!We are hosting our annual Fall Garage Sale on Saturday, October 23rd from 9 am until 12 pm.
We are limited to allowing 15 people inside at a time to allow for proper social distancing. Masks will be required of all patrons. For those waiting outside, we are also having a BBQ! Purchase a hotdog or hamburger while you wait for your turn to visit the sale. All proceeds of the Garage Sale and BBQ will go towards keeping our Church running! We greatly appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you on Saturday, rain or shine! |
