On February 18, 2024 the First United Church of Prince Rupert became officially Affirming.
During the Sunday Service, Jim Martin presented the Affirming certificate signed by Affirm United to our Worship Committee Chair, Victoria Des Champs. To commemorate the occasion, Trish Banighen donated a lovely rainbow piano tapestry she had made to be displayed in the Sanctuary. Robyn Martin and Sandra Gray also displayed information pertaining to LGBTQIA2S+ language, and what it means to be an Affirming Ministry on the bulletin boards in the entrance and the hall. Thank you to everyone that helped us reach this milestone!

The First United Church is excited to have nearly completed the process of becoming an Affirming Church.
There will be a potluck on Friday, October 13 2023 at 6 pm at the Church to discuss the process of becoming Affirming, what Affirming means, and how this will strengthen our community. Everyone is welcome to attend this event. Questions are welcome. Please bring a small dish to share amongst our friends and family. We will be hosting our Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 26 2023 at 12:15 pm.
If you've ever wondered what our church gets up to, this is the perfect opportunity to find out! We will be reviewing all events and activities that have taken place in the past year. There will be a potluck lunch prior to the meeting. Everyone is welcome to join in! It's pancake time all weekend!
Join us on Saturday, June 11 from 8-11 am at the First United Church for a pancake breakfast fundraiser for the Prince Rupert Lions Club. Plates are $6 for small and $8 for large. Can't make it on Saturday, but still need your pancake fix? No problem! The First United Church has their monthly pancake breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, June 12 from 9-10:30 am. Plates are by donation. We are so excited to announce that our famous pancake breakfasts are back! The first one we are hosting is this Sunday, May 8th, 2022 to celebrate Mother's Day.
Come on down (and don't forget your mom!) for fresh homemade pancakes, bacon, sausages, and eggs all served with fresh coffee or tea. Meals are by donation and proceeds go towards our local Food Bank. Doors open at 9:15 am and breakfast is served until 10:15 am (just before service). We look forward to seeing you there! We are happy to announce that we will be holding a Spring Garage Sale!
The sale will take place on Saturday, April 23, 2022 in the Church Hall. This is a highly anticipated annual event and we are so happy to have to opportunity to host this in-person event. Join us as we celebrate Derry's completion of his Masters of Divinity specializing in Indigenous Studies from the Vancouver School of Theology this Saturday, April 2nd, 2022 at 5 pm.
Special guest Rev. Raymond Aldred, Director of the Indigenous Studies Program at the Vancouver School of Theology will also be present. This is a potluck event, so please bring something to share. We look forward to seeing everyone and congratulation Derry on his achievement! Our Pie Sale and Loonie Auction were a great success, due once again to our community's generosity! Our famous turkey pies sold out in under 15 minutes and the rest of the baking was almost completely sold out within half an hour.
Thank you to everyone that donated their time to assist with making the turkey pies, their baking skills for the pies they donated, and for all of the wonderful items that we had available for the loonie auction. Also, thank you to the citizens of Prince Rupert, for coming out and showing your support to our Church by purchasing pies, baking, and Loonie Auction tickets. Congratulations to everyone that won an item! We greatly appreciate the support you are continuously able to offer us! We are excited to announce our first fundraising event of the year!
On March 12, 2022 we will be hosting an in-person Pie Sale and Loonie auction in the Church Hall from 2 - 4 pm. We have unexpectedly had to replace one of our hot water tanks, and repaired our furnace. We are looking forward to a successful sale and auction to help us recover from the added expenses. If you would like to donate pies for the sale, or have items you would like to donate towards the Loonie Auction, please let us know! The First United Church will hold it's Annual General Meeting on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at noon in the Church Hall. The meeting will also be available over zoom for those that cannot attend in-person.
We are excited to announce that we will be having a potluck prior to the meeting! Are you looking for an opportunity to enrich the life of the church? We are always happy to welcome new members to join us on the church council.
